Action Plan

The current plan is to complete a historical review and Phase I environmental site assessment. Areas of potential environmental concern will then be prioritized for further testing to confirm whether contamination is present.

Additional Information

The Alaska Highway was built by Canadian and U.S. military forces in an eight-month period in 1942; environmental practices were poor at this time. There is documented evidence of numerous historical camps that were set up for staging, construction, and maintenance activities. Many potential dumpsites have also been identified. Current activities adjacent to the Highway may pose risks. It is strongly suspected that contamination is present.
