Additional Information
The 1995 Environmental Baseline Study identified the presence of buried drums containing tar. The north-east area of the tenant area just off the paved apron has been excavated to remove the tar barrels. However, during the summer of 1998, tar had seeped through the apron's asphalt. This caused health and safety concerns. Boreholes have been drilled in affected areas of the tarmac, a liner inserted and area restored. The tar barrels are said to have originated from a former asphalt plant operated by the airport.
